As aberrant DNA(cytosine-5)-methyltransferase (DNMT) expression has been observed in several tumortissues [11]–[13] which might – at least in part – explainepigenetic silencing of selected genes by promoter methylation, we additionallyestimated the expression of DNMTs in tumor tissue as compared to normal brain, itsprognostic/predictive relevance in malignant glioma, and its correlation with boththe MGMT promoter methylation status and MGMT mRNA expressionlevels. The gene discussed is MGMT; the disease is malignant glioma.
