VWF and malaria: Some of these molecules are elevated in CM [22]–[24] and have been suggested to contribute to pathology: Ang-2 may exacerbate vascular activation in malaria by antagonizing the quiescence-promoting interaction of the endothelial Tie-2 receptor with angiopoietin-1 (Ang-1) [25], while vWF may help tether parasitized erythrocytes to endothelial cells via platelets [26].
