In myeloma cell lines, at above IC50 concentrations, HDACi (SAHA and LBH589) and anthracyclins potentiate apoptosis through a variety of mechanisms, including the induction of caspase 3 and 7 or by altering the expression of proapoptotic genes (Mitsiades et al, 2004; Sanchez et al, 2010). The gene discussed is CASP3; the disease is plasma cell myeloma.
