Gilmour et al (2001) reported that tumours of serous histology tend to express higher levels of ErbB4 than that of the endometrioid subtype, and Steffensen et al (2008) found that ErbB4 expression is significantly higher in epithelial ovarian cancer tumours as compared with borderline/benign ovarian tumours or normal ovaries. Somatic mutations in the intronic regions of ErbB4 have been detected in ovarian cancers; however, no mutations similar to that found in melanoma have been reported thus far (Pejovic et al, 2009). The gene discussed is ERBB4; the disease is neoplasm.
