Several large studies of EGFR expression using immunohistochemistry are concordant and report detectable levels in 72, 85, 96 and 84% of bladder tumour tissues (Messing, 1990; Wright et al, 1991; Lipponen and Eskelinen, 1994; Chow et al, 2001) and moderate or strong EGFR expression has been described in 27, 52, 42 and 47% of tumours (Lipponen and Eskelinen, 1994; Mellon et al, 1995; Chow et al, 2001; Rotterud et al, 2005).
