Multiple epidemiological studies have confirmed the association between high levels of acute phase reactants such as C-reactive protein (CRP), fibrinogen, Serum Amyloid A and soluble adhesion molecules like ICAM-1, E-Selectin, VCAM-1 with the progression of atherosclerosis and also with an increased risk for cardiovascular disease[3]. The gene discussed is CRP; the disease is atherosclerosis.
