CD4 and chronic hepatitis B virus infection: Our data are consistent with previously published data[16,17], in that they show both a higher frequency (Figures 1B and 2C) and magnitude (Figures 1C and 2C) of antigen-specific, CD4+ and CD8+ T cell responses to core and envelope antigens in subjects with inactive HBeAg-negative chronic hepatitis B virus infection relative to subjects who are immunotolerant.
