The transcriptional co-activator EP300 plays an important role in regulating gene expression in a number of different cell types [79] and is regulated by Presenilin 1 (PS1), an endoplasmic reticulum/Golgi transmembrane protein whose mutations have been associated with early-onset familial Alzheimer's disease ([FAD; [80]). The gene discussed is EP300; the disease is familial Alzheimer disease.
