CXCL8 was identified in a gene expression signature that was predicative of poor prognosis in patients with stage I lung cancer [22], while levels of CXCL8 are significantly increased in both malignant pleural effusions [23] and NSCLC [24], where levels increase with stage [25] and correlate with patient survival/relapse [26].
