Amphiregulin is a membrane-anchored glycoprotein, belonging to the epidermal growth factor (EGF) family and promotes a bi-functional role by stimulating growth of most cell types including normal epithelial cells as well as malignant cells while at the same time it inhibits the growth of certain aggressive carcinoma cell lines [10], [11], [12], [13]. The gene discussed is EGF; the disease is carcinoma.
