GCNT1 and hepatocellular carcinoma: Although our studies indicate that abundant C2-O-sLeX structures present on colon and hepatic carcinoma cells mediate invasion, this moiety is not the only participant in E-selectin binding and invasion because knock-down of the C2GnT1 gene and treatment with O- and N-glycan inhibitors did not abrogate selectin binding and invasion, nevertheless, C2-O-sLeX may act in concert with other molecules to promote these processes.
