LEP and hypertensive disorder: It is hypothesized that leptin, acting within the hypothalamus, causes activation of central sympathetic outflow and stimulates adrenal medullary release of epinephrine, and conversely, the sympathetic nervous system inhibits leptin release from white adipose tissue.1-6 A few studies in adults 7, 8 provided some preliminary evidence which also suggested that hyperlepitinemia associated with obesity causes sympathetic over-activity and hypertension.
