This polymorphism has been associated with increased MMP-1 expression in several cell types including; melanoma, stromal fibroblast, MCF-7/ADR breast cancer cells [16-19], and with several pathologies including: tumour metastasis [20,21], arthritis [22,23], periodontitis [24], chronic obstructive pulmonary disease [25] and cardiovascular disease [26,27].
