In the present study, diabetic cardiomyopathy is characterized by an decrease in the phosphorylation state of Akt and GSK-3β, which was associated with augmented cardiac inflammation as evidenced by increased NF-κB phosphorylation and TNF-α, IL-6 expression, as well as increased MPO activity.
