When participants were stratified by active cigarette smoking status at baseline, HNF1A G319S was strongly associated with incident type 2 diabetes among active smokers (OR 6.91 [95% CI 3.38-14.12]), while the association was attenuated and became non-significant among non-smokers (1.11 [0.40-3.08]) (figure 1). Here, HNF1A is linked to type 2 diabetes mellitus.
