CDK1 and malaria: Interestingly, in malaria parasites there are no candidates for Polo-like kinases, neither are there strong candidates for the network of proteins regulating the activation of the cyclin B–Cdk1 complex such as the mitotic cyclin-CDK inhibitory kinases Wee1 and Myt1 and the Cdc25 phosphatase (Ward et al., 2004; Wilkes and Doerig, 2008).
