Quantitative real-time-PCR analyses of EpCAM expression in tumors and in circulating tumor cells from patients with many of these epithelial cancers reported increased levels of EpCAM transcripts that prospectively demonstrated prognostic significance for breast, colorectal and prostate cancer patients with advanced disease [30], [31], [32], [33], [34], [35].
