The conclusion drawn from Ambati's data [25], that AMD develops because of a CCR2-dependent macrophage recruitment deficit and therefore a hypoinflammatory state, is in contradiction with a recent report of increased intraocular CCL2 levels in AMD [47] and abundant evidence of MC/Mφ accumulation in AMD [9,19-21]. Here, CCR2 is linked to age-related macular degeneration.
