REN and diabetes mellitus: Compared to those aged 65 to 74, a lower proportion of centenarians had claims for medicines acting on the renin-angiotensin system (26% vs. 51%), lipid lowering therapy (3% vs. 49%), calcium channel blockers (15% vs. 24%), beta blockers (11% vs. 23%), antiinflammatories (10% vs. 32%), psychoanaleptics (12% vs. 27%), systemic corticosteroids (5% vs. 13%), antihistamines (2% vs. 11%) and medicines for airways disease (13% vs. 25%), gout (6% vs. 11%) and diabetes (4% vs. 14%)(table 4).
