Nietsch et al. showed that the decrease of Ca2+ with Ca2+ chelator EGTA (ethylene glycol tetraacetic acid) inhibits the K+ and Cl− channel currents in tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-induced apoptosis in HTC rat hepatoma cells, suggesting that these ion channel activities during apoptosis are Ca2+-dependant [41]. Here, TNF is linked to hepatocellular carcinoma.
