Analysis of all three samples combined revealed strong associations between rs749072 and decreased risk of MLH1-promoter-methylated CRC (P = 3.80×10−6, OR for the common allele = 0.45, CI = 0.34–0.60); increased risk of MLH1-protein-expressing CRC as measured by IHC staining (P = 3.99×10−7, OR for the common allele = 1.87, CI = 1.47–2.39); and decreased risk of MSI-H CRC (P = 2.50×10−7, OR for the common allele = 0.55, CI = 0.44–0.69). This evidence concerns the gene MLH1 and colorectal carcinoma.
