A few studies on LOX-1 expression in the kidney have suggested that LOX-1 might have an effect on the development of chronic renal disease by the evidence that anti-LOX-1 treatment can reverse enlarged kidney, oxidative stress, and leukocyte infiltration; can lower the level and function of mitochondria enzymes caused by diabetes; and can protect the renal microvascular bed [9-13]. This evidence concerns the gene OLR1 and diabetes mellitus.
