Previously, we showed that transgenic SHR rats displayed pathological changes such as the AD-characteristic tau cascade consisting of tau hyperphosphorylation, formation of sarcosyl-insoluble tau complexes and neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs) [19] accompanied with neuroinflammation [20] that resulted in progressive neurobehavioral impairment [21,22]. The gene discussed is MAPT; the disease is Alzheimer disease.
