At the molecular level, the role of alpha-adducin (ADD1) in hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases has been extensively evaluated, paying particular attention to the rs4961 (Gly460Trp, G460W or G460T) single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) at exon 10 on chromosome 4p16.3 [5], in which a guanine-to-thymine transversion at nucleotide 614 leads to a glycine (Gly) to tryptophan (Trp) substitution at amino acid position 460. The gene discussed is ADD1; the disease is cardiovascular disorder.
