Pioglitazone accelerates the healing of acetic acid-induced gastric ulcers by the triggering anti-inflammatory effects, including the suppression of interleukin (IL)-1β, tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α, cyclooxygenase (COX)-2, and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), and by increasing the expression of heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) [23].
