Using G-banding and fluorescence in situ hybridization analyses, Storlazzi et al demonstrated that somatic inactivation of the NF1 gene occurred through chromosomal translocations in sporadic neurofibromas, thereby suggesting the importance of NF1 inactivation in the tumorigenesis of sporadic neurofibromas [31]. The gene discussed is NF1; the disease is plexiform neurofibroma.
