The combination of the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-targeted monoclonal antibody bevacizumab with either irinotecan/5-fluorouracil (5-FU)/leucovorin (LV) (FOLFIRI) or oxaliplatin/5-FU/LV (FOLFOX) has shown increased median progression-free survival and/or overall survival in patients with advanced CRC as compared with chemotherapy alone (Hurwitz et al, 2004, 2005; Giantonio et al, 2007). The gene discussed is VEGFA; the disease is colorectal carcinoma.
