Cultured cancer cells can excrete immunoreactive FASN into the extracellular space and the detection of significant amounts of FASN in the blood of patients with breast, prostate, and ovarian cancer may also represent a potential biomarker for human cancer because serum FASN concentration is further increased in the late (metastatic) stages of human malignancies [11-14].
