Though many studies have been undertaken to analyse the role of common variants in GIPR for association with type 2 diabetes, very rarely have these studies looked at the common variants in GIP. Inke et al. analysed two SNPs, rs2291725 (G>A, Ser103Gly) and rs2291726 (A>G, a putative splice site SNP) in GIP, for association with traits of the metabolic syndrome in a case- control study in European population but failed to observe any significant difference. The gene discussed is GIP; the disease is metabolic syndrome.
