FGF10 and mucositis: Human keratinocyte growth factor-2, Repifermin, was found to be ineffective in reducing the percentage of subjects who experienced severe mucositis.[24] Intravenous human fibroblast growth factor-20, Velafermin, is currently in clinical development for reduction of mucositis secondary to high-dose chemotherapy in autologous hematopoietic cell transplant patients.[25] The safety of this class of growth factors has not been established in patients with nonhematologic malignancies.
