Although many MYH9 SNPs were found to significantly associate with HIVAN and FSGS, any of the three highly correlated SNPs, rs4821480, rs2032487, and rs4821481 in intron 23 plus rs3752462 in intron 13, defined an extended (E) haplotype that was more informative than any single SNP for association with kidney disease [1], [7]. The gene discussed is MYH9; the disease is HIV-associated nephropathy.
