Responsiveness of ACTH to CRH administration has been shown to be higher in obese patients without OSA compared with lean subjects and to be even higher in obese patients with OSA [145], probably as the result of an alteration in the central control of ACTH secretion, as well as of an impaired sensitivity to the negative feedback action of glucocorticoids. This evidence concerns the gene POMC and obstructive sleep apnea syndrome.
