Human genetics studies have identified multiple genes associated with AMD, including complement factors H (CFH), complement factor B (CFB), and complement component 2 (C2), Chemokine (C-X3-C motif) receptor 1 (CX3CR1), Age-related macular susceptibility 2 (ARMS2), HtrA serine peptidase 1 (HTRA1), Apolipoprotein E (ApoE), Vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A), and ATP-binding cassette subfamily A (ABC1) member 4 (ABCA4; for reviews, see [3,4]). The gene discussed is C2; the disease is age-related macular degeneration.
