Anaemia remains one of the most important health problems for children in malaria-endemic countries of Africa; the prevalence of severe anaemia, usually defined as a Hb<5g/dL, among children in the community varies from 1.3% to 6.4% [1]–[6] and moderate anaemia (Hb<7g/dL) is frequent.
