Since both Smad2flox/-; Inha-/- and Smad2flox/-; Inha-/-; Amhr2cre/+ mice displayed the severe cachexia syndrome, and ovarian tumors in these mice were histologically indistinguishable, we proposed that conditional deletion of Smad2 does not alter the production of activins, an indicator of tumor status in mice lacking inhibins.
