This region is known to contain p53 gene, which has been implicated in progression of a broad spectrum of human cancers, including lung carcinomas.[3] In a study by Shimizu et al.,[3] loss of heterozygosity in chromosome arm 17 p but not 17 q was observed in a patient with small cell lung carcinoma with NF-1. This evidence concerns the gene TP53 and small cell lung carcinoma.
