In a recent gene expression profiling of patients in the pre-symptomatic phase of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), altered expression of more than 30 ankyrin repeat proteins was identified (Pescatori et al., 2007), which makes sense in view of the importance this family of proteins has in dealing with stress and damage to muscle tissue. This evidence concerns the gene PSMD10 and Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
