On mRNA level the following genes were found upregulated upon interference with AP-2 function suggesting that AP-2 proteins act as repressors of these genes: Connective Tissue Growth Factor (CTGF) is described to suppress proliferation in breast cancer cells and other tumor entities and induces apoptosis at least in part by activation of caspase-3 [31-33]. This evidence concerns the gene CASP3 and breast carcinoma.
