MTOR and cancer: These pathways involve mTOR-dependent activation of the 70 kDa ribosomal protein S6 kinase (p70S6K) as well as the inactivation of the repressor of mRNA translation, eukaryotic initiation factor 4E (eIF4E) binding protein (4EBP).4,8 It is perhaps not surprising that mTOR activity is modified in a wide range of pathological states, such as cancer, and neurodegenerative disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease.11,34
