XRCC1 and pterygium: In our series, individuals who carried at least 1 T (Trp) allele (C/T and T/T) also had a decreased risk of developing pterygium compared to those who carried the C/C (Arg/Arg) wild-type genotype (OR=0.58; 95% CI: 0.34–0.98), which is consistent with most of the published studies reporting inverse associations between the XRCC1 194Trp allele and cancer risk at many sites [25].
