Acylation stimulating protein (ASP) is a circulating adipokine elevated in obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease [1] as well as other metabolic disorders with hyperlipidemia such as polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) [2], hypothyroidism [3] and lipoprotein lipase (LPL) deficiency [4]. The gene discussed is C3; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
