ACE and diabetes mellitus: Since the CAPPP trial reported in 1999 that an ACE inhibitors significantly reduce the risk of developing diabetes as compared to other antihypertensive treatments (β-blockers, diuretics or a combination of both), numerous other trials have confirmed the unique diabetes-preventive properties of ACE inhibitors and Ang II receptor antagonists as compared to other available blood pressure lowering drugs [2], [3], [4], [5], [27].
