INS and Hyperglycemia: The main findings are that (1) chronic sleep disturbance reduces body weight without changes in food intake; (2) chronic sleep disturbance leads to hyperglycemia and a concomitant reduction in the insulin response to an IVGTT; (3) acute sleep disturbance also leads to hyperglycemia without changes in the insulin response to an IVGTT; (4) the metabolic effects of moderate sleep disturbance and more severe sleep restriction are remarkably similar.
