The genotype vacA s1/cagA+/iceA1/oipA+ was found in 13 (9.9%) of 131 isolates, and 8 (61.5%) of these are associated with a clinical diagnosis of peptic ulcer disease, whereas genotypes harbouring the s2 allele of vacA gene were predominant in the strains isolated from patients with gastritis. The gene discussed is S100A8; the disease is gastritis.
