The expression levels of transthyretin (13797/13880 Da) and cystatin C (13350 Da), two established diabetes or renal function-related related proteins, were significantly lower in the DMN group compared to the other groups (p < 0.0001) but equivalent transthyretin and cystatin C levels were observed in the N and MIC groups (Figure 4 and 5 respectively). The gene discussed is CST3; the disease is diabetes mellitus.
