We recently confirmed a number of CD susceptibility genes found in genome-wide associations studies such as NOD2, [38], [39]IL23R, [40] and ATG16L1[41], but we also demonstrated differences in the genetic susceptibility to CD [42], suggesting that there are differences in the genetic susceptibility to IBD even between different Caucasian populations. The gene discussed is ATG16L1; the disease is inflammatory bowel disease.
