CAMP and infection: Antimicrobial peptides, particularly β-defensins and LL-37 (a product of human cathelicidin), are important components of the innate defense machinery at mucosal surfaces and the expression of two AMPs, human β-defensin 2 (hBD2) and LL-37, are induced in response to infection in a variety of epithelial cells in a TLR-dependent manner [47], [48], [49], [50].
