However, in 2007, several reproducible genome-wide association studies (GWASs) confirmed these well-established susceptibility genes and identified a number of new loci (SLC30A8, HHEX, CDKN2A/B, IGF2BP2, GCKR, FTO, and CDKAL1) at which common variants influence risk of type 2 diabetes in Europeans [5]–[10]. This evidence concerns the gene FTO and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
