Proteomic profiling of cerebrospinal fluid from patients with first onset of psychosis, using SELDI mass spectrometry, identified increased VGF-derived peptide in cases of schizophrenia compared to healthy volunteers.[5] Further validation of VGF-derived peptide in an independent set of psychosis patients with schizophrenia and without schizophrenia could be useful to prove that the proteins identified are really schizophrenia specific. The gene discussed is VGF; the disease is psychotic disorder.
