Interestingly, we observed that the obesity risk allele A of the FTO variant rs9939609 was less frequently observed in patients with polycystic ovarian morphology (PCO) compared to PCOS patients without PCO (OR = 0.57, 95%, CI 0.36;0.88, p-value = 0.01) and even after correction for BMI this relationship was still present (OR = 0.60, 95%CI 0.37;0.93, p-value = 0.02). The gene discussed is FTO; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
